Generally speaking our body do not need help as long as our body temperature remains within the normal range of 36-37C. Unless you're having a high fever, then sponging with cold water would help. So about whether drinking cold water after sports would help is rather debatable in my opinion.

what we drink after games is one matter, but does it matter what we
drink BEFORE the game? and if so,what would be good?

Not anything in particular if you're asking my medical opinion. Maybe a sports doctor would advice something else, and I'm not one so not much comment about that.

We're all recreational players and in my opinion, we do not really need before drinks, after perhaps a can of 100 plus would be sufficient. Don't start quoting Federer or Nadal drinks this and that, their body metabolism is different and they're playing a totally different game.

Just had a discussion with a coach during a torunament, he told me that he will get cramps if he consume too much gatorade/100 plus during matches & he switched to plain water now & its all fine. I totally agreed with him as I had cramps during my last tournament because I drank so little water & too much gatorade/100 plus. We both agreed that the proper formula would be 1:3 which is 1 part energy drink to 3 parts of water.

What prae & the others wrote are correct. We really need the nutrition reports during real match playing to compare the physical conditions of ourselves for a thorough research. Surviving through days of competition is critical.

Want to vomit blood!!!!
22 -24 years ago, lost to a opponent because of that!!! Worse thing is lose to my worst enemy in a Open tournament.......lost face that day.(ARRRRRRRRRRRGGG) Nowadays I make sure my body is hydrated no matter what, as long as a pee, the urine is clear I am good to go, naturally I make sure if play in afternoon sun, I take crap loads of potassium, ie banana, and drink more water than usual.
